A 5-year-old girl was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident Friday night on the South Side in the city's Chatham neighborhood.

Chicago Fire Department paramedics were called shortly after 8 p.m. to the 8100 block of South Evans Avenue for a girl who had been struck by a vehicle, said spokesman Joe Roccasalva.

The girl was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Comer Children's Hospital, he said.

A gray vehicle struck the girl and fled the scene, said Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.

As of 2 a.m., the girl was reported in fair condition with briuses and lacerations to her body, Alfaro said. Her injuries were thought to be non-life threatening, he said.

As of 2:10 a.m., no one was in custody. Police were investigating.
